Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Overview

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is a full land themed after the ever-popular Star Wars franchise. The area, which officially opened on August 29, 2019, includes two rides: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Galaxy's Edge is also known as the Black Spire Outpost, a crossroads on the far-flung planet of Batuu. Not long ago, the First Order showed up searching for something, although what that something is remains unknown. Even more recently, the Resistance set up camp in the wooded area of the Outpost and began, well... resisting.

The area has two main sections: The south end is where the Resistance is and this tree-lined area contains the entrance to the Rise of the Resistance attraction as well as a few well-known ships like an A-wing and an X-wing fighter. Leaving the forested area brings you to the Marketplace, a shopping and dining area, where you find most of the inhabitants of the town. At the far north end of the Black Spire Outpost is the section controlled by the Red Fury, the 709th battalion of the First Order. There you will find a TIE Echelon fighter guarded by some comically aggressive stormtroopers.

When you are in Galaxy's Edge you are not on Earth, but on the planet of Batuu and in the middle of the Star Wars movies. Do not expect the inhabitants to discuss Terran problems, but do expect them to talk at length about the goings on of the Black Spire Outpost. In the Star Wars timeline, you are in between the events of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker.

Planning for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World

If you would like to do everything available at Galaxy's Edge it's going to take some advanced planning and early rising (welcome to Disney World). The popular Oga's Cantina almost always requires a reservation via Disney's website. If you would like to build a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop or your very own robot at the Droid Depot you can make reservations for those, as well. We would definitely recommend reservations for Savi's at least 2 months in advance, but Droid Depot reservations are a little easier to get on short notice.

To ride the two rides in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge requires a different type of plan. Rise of the Resistance does not offer a standby line. Instead, that attraction lets you join a virtual queue called a "Boarding Group." For more on the process and our recommendations see our Rise of the Resistance page.

Shopping in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

In the heart of the Black Spire Outpost sits a Marrakech-esque marketplace selling unique in-universe merchandise, some of which are practically attractions in of themselves. None of the packaging being sold bears the standard Star Wars or Disney Parks logos, in order to maintain the illusion that all the souvenirs for sale were actually crafted by and for the Black Spire villagers themselves.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Dok-Ondar is a surly, hammerheaded Ithorian who’s the local godfather of black market goods; if you want to buy a historical character’s lightsaber or Sith holocron, you may need to barter with the animatronic bi-mouthed bigwig, who haggles with guests through his human helpers. Sharp-eyed fans will spot easter eggs from practically every Star Wars film and television show, including a 12-foot-tall taxidermied Wampa from The Empire Strikes Back.

Bina’s Creature Stall

Guests come to this stall to adopt a plush Porg puppet, a disgustingly adorable writhing baby Rathtar, or a shoulder-sitting Kowakian monkey-lizard, which is what the honorable Salacious B. Crumb is. All the animals react to your touch with sound and movement, and the stall is stuffed with additional animatronic aliens that unfortunately can’t be taken home.

Toydarian Toymaker

For kids young and old, the Toydarian Toymaker has plush dolls of legendary characters that look handcrafted from up-cycled scraps of fabric, metal AT-ATs assembled from spare parts, and other unconventional playthings. All toys are handmade by Zabaka the Toydarian, a flying creature much like Watto from The Phantom Menace.

Clothing and Accessories

For more typical T-shirts, hats, pins, and the like, you can either report to First Order Cargo, a spaceport hangar selling First Order-related clothing and gear as well as other Dark Side propaganda, or sign up at the makeshift Resistance Supply stall and show your support for the freedom fighters. Finally, Jewels of Bith has accessories and trinkets from across the Outer Rim.
